THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

Established in 2010 by Angelica, Eye Candy is a culmination of a lifelong love for decoration and sewing. What began as childhood lessons in fabric artistry evolved into a successful career as a window treatment fabricator and interior decorator. Despite the challenges, Angelica’s dedication has turned Eye Candy into a thriving platform. Now, she extends her vast knowledge to a global audience through engaging classes. Angelica’s dream is to empower individuals worldwide to create beautiful draperies and accessories, fostering a new generation of skilled artisans and entrepreneurs. Eye Candy stands as a testament to a decade of passion and creativity, inspiring others to turn their dreams into tangible works of art.

In the realm of window treatment and fabric accessories crafting, a significant gap exists in accessible and comprehensive learning platforms. Aspiring creators often struggle to find resources that not only teach the techniques but also provide a supportive community for sharing experiences and insights. Traditional methods of learning lack the convenience and inclusivity needed for a global audience. Addressing these challenges is crucial for fostering a new generation of skilled artisans.

Eye Candy seizes the opportunity to fill this educational void, offering a platform where Angelica’s wealth of knowledge can be shared globally. By creating an inclusive and interactive online space, Eye Candy can cater to a diverse audience, transcending geographical boundaries. This presents a chance to democratize expertise, making it accessible to anyone with a passion for window treatment and fabric accessories creation. The opportunity lies in building a vibrant community that nurtures creativity and skill development.

The overarching goal of Eye Candy is to empower individuals with the skills and confidence to excel in the craft of window treatment and fabric accessory creation. Beyond imparting technical knowledge, the platform aspires to cultivate a supportive and collaborative community. By doing so, it seeks to inspire not only hobbyists but also potential entrepreneurs to turn their passion into a fulfilling and potentially profitable endeavor. Eye Candy aims to redefine online learning in this niche, making it an engaging, hands-on, and globally connected experience.

Journey map

Initial sketches

While working on it, I faced challenges in determining the layout, which sections, and overall navigation to prioritize. However, I saw these obstacles as opportunities for growth. Based on user needs, I came up with this prototype, but I’m open to other suggestions. This prototype is just the beginning of an ongoing process of improvement and refinement.

USER TESTING

In our recent usability testing, we gathered invaluable insights that have significantly influenced the refinement of Eye Candy’s platform. Four participants engaged with our wireframes and high-fidelity prototype, unveiling areas for improvement.

  1. Enhanced Top Menu Bar: Participants highlighted issues with navigation. In response, we revamped the top menu bar, ensuring a seamless and intuitive user experience. Now, users can effortlessly explore the platform, finding what they need with ease.

  2. Optimized Payment Process: Users encountered challenges during the payment process. Taking this feedback to heart, we’ve diligently enhanced the payment flow, addressing any obstacles identified during testing. Now, users can smoothly complete transactions, fostering a positive experience.

  3. Layout Refinements: Feedback on layout guided us to make refinements for better visual hierarchy and information flow. These adjustments aim to enhance overall user comprehension and engagement.

  4. Stronger Call to Action: Participants expressed a desire for clearer calls to action. Responding to this, we implemented a stronger and more intuitive call to action, ensuring users are guided effectively through their journey.

FINAL OUTCOME

Our team worked intensively to refine the initial ideas and wireframes we had developed for our platform. After several iterations, we were able to create a fully functioning prototype using Figma. The app was designed to make the process of class enrollment hassle-free and enjoyable experience. We focused on three core elements – ease, speed, and enjoyment –  while using the app.

FINAL TAKEAWAYS

As I worked on designing for Eye Candy, I learned how important it is to make things easy to understand, enjoyable, and informative. This journey had its ups and downs, but it helped me grow as a designer. I realized it’s okay not to know everything and that learning is a never-ending process.

Through this experience, I learned how to understand better what users need and how to create a platform that is easy to use and provides helpful information for people who love to sew. But I know there’s always room for improvement. To ensure the platform meets everyone’s expectations and provides an excellent experience, I plan to get feedback from stakeholders.

I believe in working together and always trying to do my best. This project reminded me how important it is to design with empathy and to stay open to new ideas. I am grateful for the opportunity to create something that can positively impact people’s lives.

NEXT STEPS

  1. Further Iteration: Based on user feedback, we’ll continue iterating on the design to address any remaining pain points and refine the user interface for optimal usability.
  2. Extended Testing: Conduct additional usability testing to validate the recent improvements and gather fresh insights that may have surfaced with the latest changes.
  3. Developer Handoff: Prepare comprehensive documentation for developers, including updated wireframes, design specifications, and any necessary assets. Collaborate closely with the development team to ensure a smooth transition from design to implementation.
  4. User Journey Validation: Prior to full-scale launch, validate the entire user journey to ensure that each touchpoint aligns seamlessly with user expectations and goals.
